Dog Ears Bookstore, the nonprofit bookstore located at 688 Abbott Road, Buffalo, will host book-signing events for two local authors during the month of August.
Jackie Albarella will sign copies of her new book, “The Change: Or How to Make a Fan Out of Almost Anything,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21. Albarella is an award-winning artist, filmmaker and entrepreneur, and her garden segments can be seen Saturdays on WGRZ-TV’s Daybreak program.
This collection of personal essays is Albarella's take on the adventures of every day living. The wiggly monsters underfoot or in the garden evoke hilarious visual images. Every woman who has ever had to change in a gym locker room or gone through the torture of buying a new bathing suit will find something funny in the way Albarella describes her adventures in womanhood. Having the nickname “Rock Fish,” dealing with bugs flying up your shorts in summer or playing celebrity baseball all become causes for laughter for the reader of this easy to laugh with book.
In Greg Bauch’s first book, “Frank Dates,” Frank Grantle will make your worst dating experience seem like a fairy tale romance. The only thing more pathetic than his attempt at finding companionship is a fruitless venture to gain employment. It is a blistering race to see which struggle will destroy him first.
“Frank Dates” is the story of a flawed protagonist with a dating history surrounded by police tape and alcohol vapors. It’s a must-read for anyone in search of a good laugh. The books-signing event at Dog Ears Bookstore will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.
Bauch is a stand-up comic and producer of the Mike Schopp and the Bulldog show on WGR Sports Radio 550 AM. For comedy dates, blogs and further fun, visit his website at www.gregbcomedy.com.
