MQA is home to a brand new, state-of-the-art Media Arts Center.

MQA School adds new Media Arts Center

Students returning to Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School in Cheektowaga this September will be greeted by a renovated computer lab that will now be know as the school’s Media Arts Center. New computer tables, chairs, Macintosh computers, digital cameras and video equipment, and a SMART Board will transform the lab into a state-of-the-art, hand-on learning environment.

While all students in Pre-K through Grade 8 will utilize the new Media Arts Center, a special curriculum for seventh- and eighth-grade students has also been developed. In addition to field trips and guest speakers from the communications industry, students will take specialized classes that will teach them how to best utilize the new equipment and gear them toward local Catholic high schools and colleges offering similar media arts programs.

The seventh- and eighth-grade students, over a period of six trimesters, will take courses such as art history and appreciation, graphic design, creative writing, digital photography, videography and public speaking, according to Principal MaryAlice Bagwell.

“Our Media Arts Center will be unique among Western New York elementary schools and will afford our students an opportunity to better compete in today’s high-tech world,” said Principal Bagwell. “Our ongoing goal at Mary Queen of Angels is to better prepare our students for high school, college and career.”

The Mary Queen of Angels Media Arts Center is currently seeking sponsorships and partnerships with companies and organizations across Western New York who share similar interests in the field of communications. For more information, please contact the school office.

Located at 170 Rosewood Terrace, Mary Queen of Angels is currently accepting registrations for Pre-K, UPK, Kindergarten and Grades 1-8 for the 2012-13 school year. For more information about the school or to schedule a tour, please visit www.mqangels.com or call 895-6280.
