The Enlightenment Center at Dog Ears Bookstore will host a new Teen Book Club beginning at 6:30 p.m. on four Wednesdays, July 18 and 25 and Aug. 1 and 15. The nonprofit bookstore is located at 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo.
The book club, open to teens ages 13 to 16, will encourage strong readers to continue reading, try new genres of literature and find meaning in narratives. The club will also assist struggling readers by helping them discover the joys of literature, how to pick out important meanings in passages and connect them with stronger readers with whom they can relate.
The Teen Book Club can accommodate up to 15 participants. There is a $5 registration fee per person.
Additionally, Dog Ears Bookstore will host two writers’ workshops in June and July. On Mondays, June 18 through July 16, Marjorie Norris will conduct “Writing Your Memory Quilt” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The fee for the four classes is $60, and the class is open to a maximum of 20 participants.
The class will teach participants how to utilize things such as music, sense impressions, photos and collective memory in their writing. You do not need to be an experienced writer to take part. Just bring a pen, notebook and a few old photos, and watch your talents soar!
Robin F. Brox will host a Blogging Workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, June 19 to July 15. Do you have a blog already or would you like to start one? Come to this workshop to discuss blogging strategies, develop content, share ideas, and ask and answer questions. Any style of weblog is welcome, from personal to public. The cost of the class is $60, and registration is limited to 12 individuals.
