Patients, doctors, and staff gathered at Kenmore Mercy Hospital on June 7 to receive their third national recognition since 2008 for their Medical Rehabilitation Unit. Recently, the hospital was ranked among the top 10 percent in the country according to 2011 year-end report by Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitations. This places the MRU at Kenmore Mercy among the best in the country, out of more than 800 similar inpatient centers that were included in the report.
A special guest at the MRU award celebration was former patient Michael Mulawka, a clarinetist. He was back at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, demonstrating the results of his excellent care and therapy as he performed a fluent and confident Toccata and Fuge by J S BACH. Mulawka’s performance is living proof of the kind of success the hospital credits for earning the unit high recognition. He is an inspiration to those who attended and those who are still in recovery.
Mulawka, a long time Tonawanda resident, previously taught music in local schools and plays in Dixie bands.
