Cancer survivor to speak at high tea

NovelTea, a formal high tea to benefit Dog Ears Bookstore and The Enlightenment Literary Arts Center, will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at The Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road, South Buffalo. NovelTea will feature all of the refreshments and trappings customarily found at a traditional high tea. Author Patty Gelman will deliver remarks exploring both her successful battle against breast cancer, and helpful writing and publishing tips for would-be authors.

Attendees will enjoy classic high tea fare including tea and coffee, fresh fruit, crumpets, and other baked goods and sweets. They are also be invited to don a formal hat from the collection of Mrs. Karen E. Penfold. Guests may also wear their own hats, as well as their finest frocks, for NovelTea.

Gelman, a resident of Amherst, is author of “Humor After the Tumor,” a meaningful chronicle of her journey through the muddling elements of detection and treatment of breast cancer. Interspersed with humor are medical facts and the important role that family, friends and advocates played in her journey through this insidious life-threatening disease.

Tickets for NovelTea are just $20 and are available at Dog Ears Bookstore, 688 Abbott Road, South Buffalo. The event is restricted to women and girls 10 years of age and older.
