A look at the winding staircase within Dog Ears Bookstore.

Poetry series at Dog Ears Bookstore

The popular monthly 4th Friday Poetry Series at the nonprofit Dog Ears Bookstore, located at 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo, resumes at 7 p.m. Friday, May 25. Guest readers will include Elaine Chamberlain and George Grace.

Chamberlain taught English, creative writing and art and has done volunteer nursing in southern Mexico. She likes to write about growing up in Seattle, about the Mayan people who were her patients in Chiapas, and about travel on the cheap. She has traveled aboard chicken buses in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Bolivia; biked and ferried in Nova Scotia; and traveled by train, canal boat and bicycle rickshaw in India and Nepal. Last year she retired after 20 years as a mental health counselor. Her current passion is the art of collage and diorama.

Grace is an artist, playwright and poet. His latest anthology of poems, “Night Wanes, Dawn,” was released in March. He is founder of the Bad Pudding Writers Group and the Buffalo Society of Artists International Poetry Festival, the second of which is slated for
September at location to be announced.

The 4th Friday Poetry Series, held on the fourth Friday of every month, features guest readers and open reading slots in a relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for first-time poets who would like to try out their work before a friendly audience. A $2 donation will support educational programs offered by the bookstore.
