“Advocacy, access, achievement: Making the connection” is the theme of National School Nurse Day, being celebrated on Wednesday, May 9. The theme is reflective of the overall positive impact school nurses have on the health and well-being of students, according to the National Association of School Nurses (NASN).
The Iroquois Central School District, covering approximately 84 square miles, includes the towns of Elma, Marilla, Wales, Aurora, Lancaster and Bennington. The district serves approximately 2,900 students in six public schools, and also includes two Catholic elementary schools — Annunciation and St. Vincent de Paul.
School nurses serving in the Iroquois Central School District include Jennifer Brooks, Iroquois Intermediate; Peggy Christensen, Iroquois Middle; Maria Feneziani, Marilla Primary; Alison Genders, Iroquois High School; Sharon George, St. Vincent de Paul; Jackie Ginter, Wales Primary; Debbie Kampff, Annunciation; and Jane Zakrzewski, Elma Primary.
“National School Nurse Day accentuates the school nurse’s vital role in promoting wellness now so to ensure healthy futures,” said Linda Davis-Alldritt, president of the NASN. It is absolutely essential that the entire school community work with the school nurse to stay informed on public health issues, the latest research, and policy that affects the health, well-being and safety of our students.”
