The faculty members at Erie 1 BOCES Potter Career & Technical Center have selected Elizabeth Peters, a senior from Hamburg High School, as their featured student of the month for March. Elizabeth is currently enrolled in the Introduction to Nursing program under the instruction of Michelle Montaldi.
Elizabeth was selected by the staff and administration from the BOCES career center because of her superior academic achievement, her excellent skills during clinical activities and her membership in the National Technical Honor Society. In addition, she is acting president of the SkillsUSA club at Potter and displays a positive attitude for everyone with whom she interacts.
Upon graduating high school, Elizabeth will attend Daemen College for nursing with a goal of becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner.
In addition to excelling while taking classes at Erie 1 BOCES, Elizabeth also excels at Hamburg High School where she is on the honor roll.
"Since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be a nurse," said Elizabeth. "An advantage of taking this program while in high school includes getting a head start on learning medical terminology. In addition to learning more about anatomy and physiology, I was able to put these subjects together with the hands on clinical skills."
She continued to explain that because of taking the program, which meets for two hours each school day, Elizabeth will now be eligible to take the Certified Nursing Assistant Exam in August.
"I would definitely recommend the program to anyone that is interested in the healthcare field, it offers so much, and is not just for nurses."
