Poetry planned at Dog Ears Bookstore

Dog Ears Bookstore, a unique nonprofit bookstore and literary arts center located at 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo, will hold its next 4th Friday Poetry Series at 7 p.m. Friday, March 23. Guest readers this month will include Elizabeth Glenny and Ron Prickett.

The 4th Friday Poetry Series, held on the fourth Friday of every month, features guest readers and open reading slots in a relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for first-time poets who would like to try out their work before a friendly audience. A $2 donation will support educational programs offered by the bookstore.

Glenny is editor of The Saving Bannister poetry anthology, published by the Canadian Authors Association. Her collection, “A Periodic Sentence,” was launched in 2007 by The League of Canadian Poets. Glenny has also helped organize several poetry seminars, including Ten Weekends of Poetry and Music at McFarland House Museum; The Robbie Burns Birthday Celebrations at the Commissioners' Quarter, Niagara Parks Commission; and Poetry in the Park, a joint effort with members of Just Buffalo.

Prickett, who lives in St Catharines, Ontario, is a partner with Glenny in Sigillate Publishing. An active member in the Canadian Authors Association and Canadian League of Poets, his poem titled “Wallace Stevens Spoons a Midnight Tea" was awarded first prize in the 25th anniversary issue of The Saving Bannister poetry anthology. Prickett also co-authored “Hanging on a Nail” and is well known for his work in writing with youth in Niagara Region schools and libraries.
