Despite cold temperatures and snow, the ice in Burtis Bay on Chautauqua Lake opened up today. The strong north wind that has been blowing since yesterday seems to have dissolved the ice from this section of the southern basin. As recent as Thursday, dedicated ice fishermen were out on this part of the lake.
