Around 3PM on January 27th, i got a text from my friend saying that the tire recycling facility was on fire. so i grabbed my Nikon camara, and headed off to see what i could find. as i stepped out my door, i could already see the smoke from the far side of the canal, less that a mile away from my house. i rushed down the street, over the canal at Prospect Street, and headed off to an abandonded building nearby the fire. Using the expertise of some local kids who like to explore buildings, and my own experience in abandoned places, I quickly found the best place to get some pictures up close to the fire; on top of a huge mound of sawdust. Scrambling up as quickly as i could, i soon set to work taking as many pics of the fire as i could. What i could see was something out of Dante's Inferno. The fire was billowing smoke hundreds of feet into the sky, and also sending foul-smelling smoke through the open window of my cover. As soon as I felt that the one spot was used up for pictures, I soon scrambled up on top of an even higher mound of sawdust to see if the view was better. The fire did not disappoint. And as i made my way out of the building, after taken my fair of pictures, I noticed I was covered in ashes, sawdust, mud, and snow. But at the same time, I felt like Annie Griffiths out taking pictures for National Geographic. And as the fire continued to rage, I walked off with a new found love for pictures and photography.
