Annunciation School to showcase upgrades

When families visit Annunciation School for open house activities on Thursday, Feb. 2, they should walk away very impressed with recent upgrades and initiatives that have created a new buzz at the Elma elementary school.

Families with young children will be pleased to see Annunciation’s expanded Pre-K program. During the Summer of 2011, a third Pre-K room was opened at the facility. A new Pre-K 4 teacher was also added to help guide participants through this early educational experience.

As families continue their tour of the school, they will experience the new Center for Health Science that also became an exciting reality during the Summer of 2011. The Center is an innovative two-year curriculum, broken down into six trimesters, that offers students a hands-on opportunity to receive health certifications, prepare research projects, explore health career opportunities, and delve into subjects such as safety, fitness, ecology and drug awareness. The classroom was literally rebuilt from the ground up and now features brand new floors, lab tables, technology and much more.

Seventh- and eighth-grade students participating in the Center for Health Science this school year have been on several interesting field trips, including visits to Buffalo General Hospital, Rural Metro Medical Services, Mercy Flight and North Buffalo Medical Park. Several guest speakers have also visited the classroom to share their extensive knowledge and experience with Annunciation students. The program is supported by the Annunciation parish as well as Catholic Health, Independent Health, Kaleida Health and Upstate New York Transplant Services, and is the only one of its kind in Western New York!

Technology has also been upgraded at Annunciation, where all students enjoy utilizing the spacious computer lab. SMART Board technology is also available in all classrooms and most specialty rooms.

The public is invited to Annunciation’s open house to experience how the school is living up to its motto: Touching hearts, teaching minds, transforming lives. The event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 2.
