Max Sandvoss of First Light Farm & Creamery visits Farmers & Artisans.

Farmers & Artisans hosts cheese event

A unique “Meet the Cheesemaker” event was held on Dec. 1 at Farmers & Artisans, located at 78 East Spring St. in Williamsville. Guests at the event sampled wine and cheese with cheesemaker Max Sandvoss from First Light Farm & Creamery in East Bethany, N.Y.

First Light produces a wide variety of goat’s milk and cow’s milk artisanal cheeses made by hand in small batches. First Light employs meticulously sustainable and humane management of their herd of Nubian and Alpine dairy goats. Many of their recipes combine their milk with organic Jersey milk from their neighbor's exceptionally well-managed dairy. This combination results in a unique, delicious flavor and consistency to all of their cheeses.

First Light and many other New York State farmstead cheeses can be purchased at Farmers & Artisans, where store hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, please call 633-2830, visit www.farmersandartisans.com or follow the Farmers & Artisans Facebook page for frequent updates.
