Kenmore Mercy Hospital, a member of Catholic Health, commemorated 60 years of service to the Ken-Ton community on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. Hospital staff and friends gathered in the Atrium for a celebration, recommitment ceremony, and blessing from Bishop Edward Kmiec.
During this brief observance, those gathered gave thanks for the thousands of patients who have entrusted Kenmore Mercy Hospital with their care. Those assembled recommitted themselves to the Mission, Vision & Values which have led hospital employees throughout the decades.
Established on October 7, 1951, Kenmore Mercy Hospital delivered 821 babies and treated 3,450 patients during its first year of operation. Over the next 60 years, the hospital increased in size and added an array of programs, services, and technological innovations, to meet the changing needs of patients in the growing community. The hospital has since built several expansions, added new services, like the Knee & Hip and SleepCare Centers, and opened offsite locations to serve neighboring communities.
“While medical technology has unquestionably changed at the speed of light in the past 60 years, dedication and a compassionate healing environment remains the hallmark of Kenmore Mercy,” said James Millard, Kenmore Mercy Hospital president & CEO.
To further improve the hospital, Kenmore Mercy will be expanding and relocating its Emergency Department in the spring to add to the quality of service they already provide. This will be the hospital’s biggest expansion project in 25 years.
