Always fresh, always seasonal and always local!

EBFM lists events for August 20

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, a Western New York tradition featuring more than 30 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local products, is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine. Providing musical entertainment at the open-air venue this week, Aug. 20, will be violinist David Adamczyk from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The market also welcomes several community groups this week, including the Buffalo Animal Shelter, Richmond Ashland National Register Historic District Initiative and Child & Family Services. Liberty Vineyards & Winery and Leonard Oakes Estate Winery will offer wine-tasting.

A Tour & Taste the Market event, hosted by Christa Glennie Seychew of Feed Your Soul, will take place beginning at 10 a.m. this Saturday. Please visit  www.eatlocalbuffalo.com for tour tickets and for more information. Additionally, registered dietitian Nicole Klem will be on hand from 10 a.m. to noon to answer any nutrition-related questions you may have. You’ll find her at the Elmwood Village Association table.

A new Electronic Benefit Transfer system is in place at the market for the 2011 season. The EBT system allows individuals and families receiving public assistance to purchase products from eligible market vendors. And now, the market is also participating in the Fresh Checks program. For every $5 worth of tokens that you purchase at the market using your EBT card, you will receive a Fresh Checks coupon worth an additional $2. Buy $20 worth of tokens with your EBT cards, and you'll receive an additional $8 in Fresh Check coupons, redeemable at participating market vendors. Visit the Elmwood Village table this Saturday for details!

For a complete list of market vendors and events, please visit the market’s website at www.elmwoodmarket.org. Frequent updates are also available by becoming a fan of the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market page on Facebook.
