Three BOCES students recognized by Taste of Buffalo

BOCES culinary students win scholarships

Three students from Erie 1 BOCES were selected as 2011 Taste of Buffalo Scholarship recipients. Each year, Taste of Buffalo awards $1,000 in scholarship money to up to five graduating high school seniors who plan to further their education in the culinary arts or hospitality curriculum. This year, Erie 1 BOCES students clinched three of the spots.

Chelsie Zanghi of John F. Kennedy High School was part of the Culinary Skills program at Potter Career & Technical Center. Zanghi will major in culinary arts at Niagara County Community College (NCCC) and plans to further her education after that. Her lifetime goal is to open a restaurant.

Claire Murello of Williamsville South High School was part of the Culinary Skills program at Harkness Career & Technical Center. With an aspiration to open her own bakery, Murello will attend NCCC in the fall majoring in baking and pastry arts.

Tonawanda High School’s Amanda Reece was part of the Culinary Skills program at Kenton Career & Technical Center. She will move on to study at Johnson & Wales University with the future goal of opening her own bakery.

As part of the public education model, Erie 1 BOCES offers more than 25 career and technical programs to high school students in Erie County. High school students interested in learning more about how they can participate in various programs such as culinary, computer networking, TV production and criminal justice during their normal school day should visit www.e1b.org or speak with their high school counselor.
