It's strawberry season at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market!

EBFM adds Fresh Checks program

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, a Western New York tradition featuring more than 30 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local products, is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine. Providing the entertainment at the open-air venue this week will be violinists David Adamczyk from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Griffin Saiia from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Returning to the market for the first time in 2011 is everyone’s favorite attraction, the Alpaca Play Pen!

The market also welcomes several community groups this week, including the Buffalo Animal Shelter, GrowWNY.org and the Tapestry Charter School. Arrowhead Spring Vineyards will offer wine-tasting.

A new Electronic Benefit Transfer system is in place at the market for the 2011 season. The EBT system allows individuals and families receiving public assistance to purchase products from eligible market vendors. And now, the market is also participating in the Fresh Checks program. For every $5 worth of tokens that you purchase at the market using your EBT card, you will receive a Fresh Checks coupon worth an additional $2. Buy $20 worth of tokens with your EBT cards, and you'll receive an additional $8 in Fresh Check coupons, redeemable at participating market vendors. Visit the Elmwood Village table this Saturday for details!

And finally, guests of the market can meet Registered Dietitian Nicole Klem from 10 a.m. to noon at the market's Elmwood Village table. She’ll be happy to answer your food-related questions, review your recipes or provide nutritional tips. Nicole will be returning to the market once per month through October.
