Annunciation students proudly display their first place and championship track trophies.

Annunciation earns first place in track

Competing against seven other schools, Annunciation School in Elma earned first place overall at the Holbel Championship track meet held on May 31 at St. Francis High School. Other participating schools included Fourteen Holy Helpers, Mary Queen of Angels, St. Mary’s of the Lake, St. Aloysius, St. Joseph - Gowanda, St. Augustine’s and the Waldorf School.

Annunciation students earned gold medals in the following categories: 75-meter sprint, softball throw, 300-meter relay, standing long jump and 60-meter sprint. In addition to winning the championship meet, the team from Elma also finished in first place during the regular season.

“Each and every member of the team added points to the first three track meets which resulted in the team bringing home the trophy for winning the regular season,” said Annunciation Track Coach Caryn Bartnik. “The last time the Annunciation team won the Holbel League regular season was in 2007. I always remind the students that track is a team sport and they really showed that is true. Each member of the 2011 Annunciation track team is congratulated on an awesome year!”
