Lafayette Students Win Award

Two Lafayette High School Juniors were honored last week when they received first and second place awards for their poems that were published in the Speak Your Mind and Shape Your World Literary and Art Journal. Their English teacher Ms. Meola Shanahan described the girls as young aspiring writers who give voice to the issues and concerns that young women face today.

Stephanie Watts, who received first place for her “I am From…” poem, would like to attend SUNY @ Fredonia where she will pursue a degree in English Education and Angel Dysart-Nunekpuka, who took second place, will be applying to Cornell University in hopes of exploring a degree in Anthropology. Way to go girls – you make Buffalo and the Buffalo Public Schools proud.
