School #65 Raises Money for Research

Students at Roosevelt ECC #65 participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Pasta program. For the months of January and February, children were encouraged to collect pennies, change and currency to raise money to support the research of leukemia, lymphoma and blood cancers.

Funds raised from Pennies for Pasta will help support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s programs of blood cancer research and local patient aid and services. The Western New York and Finger Lakes Chapter currently funds nine research projects at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the University of Rochester. The local Chapter also has approximately 2,200 patients on their roster.

Together with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Olive Garden Restaurant partnered up and sponsored Pennies for Pasta. For the second year, an incentive for the classroom that raised the most money was awarded. This year the top fundraising classroom wins a “Hospitaliano!” lunch delivered and served by Olive Garden.

The efforts raised a generous total of $3,269.19, and this year’s winner of the Olive Garden luncheon was Mrs. Lis’ First Grade classroom, who led the way with over $800 raised.
The class enjoyed a delicious lunch served by Chef Rebecca from Olive Garden on May 5, 2011. Congratulations to Mrs. Lis and her students, and a big thank you to all of the teachers and students for helping make this year’s program such a great success.
