Herman Badillo Student Television

Morning announcements are broadcast live through the Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy webpage incorporating state of the art technology. HBBA News Channel 76 was developed for the purpose of making general announcements, showing video footage of special events, interactive Pledge of Allegiance and the School Pride Pledge in both English and Spanish, along with multicultural music and photographs of birthday students. Teachers go online before 8:00 AM and view the announcements through use of their Promethean.

Teacher Kevin Pezzino had been considering the idea of live announcements for several months. Through the assistance of Kathy Emhof (ITT) and teacher Linda Sacco, the idea became a reality in February. Much time and energy goes into daily productions (filming, taking photos, editing, etc.). Laura Ellis, a student teacher from Canisius College, provided the technical support needed for production. Teacher Eric Trznadel played a role in developing the weekly Hall Monitor Madness skit, which all students look forward to watching.

Sacco says, “We are proud to be the first Buffalo public school to incorporate technology in bringing the announcements live to the students.”
