Chinese Delegation Visits Schools

On Friday April 29, 2011, a delegation from China visited the Buffalo Public Schools. The group included seven educators from China, led by Dr. Zhou Nanzhao, a University at Buffalo Alumni, who currently serves as the President of UNESCO Asia Pacific Network for International Education and is also the Director of the International Center for Teacher Education at East China Normal University.

“Our primary objective in cultivating this relationship,” according to Superintendent James A. Williams, “is to forge and solidify plans for sustained educational and international partnership exchanges between schools in China and our schools.”

The visit included tours of Emerson School of Hospitality, Stanley Makowski Early Childhood Center and City Honors School. Makowski and City Honors are authorized as International Baccalaureate Program schools that also offer Mandarin Chinese as a language. The delegates were especially interested in the vocational aspect of the culinary arts program at Emerson.

Superintendent James A. Williams and Dr. Catherine Battaglia, a former community superintendent, previously visited Dr. Zhou and his team in China in of November 2009.
