Today in Wilson, 7,500 Baby Steelhead Trout were introduced into the pens, in the Wilson Harbor Pen Rearing Project. These trout will be fed by hand until they are ready to be released into the wild. Another 22,550 trout were released in two other local streams. The New York State Department of Conservation, raise the trout at different locations and then transport them to various places for releasing. Local volunteers assist DEC Biologist Mike Wilkinson and the DEC drivers, stock them into different areas around the state so they will grow and be available in the future, for everyone to enjoy. Volunteers are always needed to help. Contact your local Conservation Clubs for information.
