Aaron McClellan was honored at Erie 1 BOCES fourth annual Alumni Induction Ceremony last night. McClellan used the technical skills he learned in the CISCO Network Academy at Erie 1 BOCES as a jumping off point to a very busy, full life that includes earning two college degrees, working full-time at Moog, teaching college part-time and volunteering at his church.
During his time as a student at Hamburg High School, McClellan attended the CISCO Networking Academy at BOCES' Potter Career & Technical Center. After graduating in 2002, he continued his education to receive an associate degree in telecommunications technology from Erie Community College and a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Buffalo State College.
McClellan said, “I can honestly say that BOCES pointed me in the right direction for my career path and laid the groundwork for my skill set. The program instructor, Joe McNamara, pushed me to excel and gave me the skills I needed to further my education which allowed me to not only achieve my career goals but other goals in life.”
McClellan is employed by Moog as a computer systems support engineer. He divides his time between two roles: a PC technician, where he provides support for end-user desktop and laptop computers; and a systems engineer, where he works on specialty projects to develop, implement, and support company-wide information systems, as well as the research and integration of new technologies.
He also teaches information technology-related courses as a part-time assistant professor at Erie Community College in the telecommunications department. In his spare time, he volunteers at his church as an usher and a technology integrator.
“BOCES’ programs are very beneficial to students and the community. It gives students the training, skills and mind set to achieve great things.”
Three additional honorees were also recognized including Edward Lattuca, a 1998 Ken-Ton High School graduate that attended Northtowns Academy; Sharon Ryan, a resident of North Tonawanda that completed the Medical Billing program for adult learners in 2007; and Craig Waliczek; a Hamburg resident that completed Erie 1 BOCES Exceptional Education program in 2007.
