The true spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday was alive and well at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, a member of Catholic Health, as associates gathered in the lobby on Tuesday, November 23 to bless and distribute Thanksgiving food baskets that were prepared to help needy families throughout the local community. Associates have been putting together food baskets for this annual Thanksgiving tradition for more than ten years.
“With the downturn in the economy, many families in Western New York struggle to be able to celebrate during the holiday season. Now, more than ever, there is a need in our community,” said Sister Ellen McClure, OSF, Vice President of Mission Integration for Kenmore Mercy. “Thankfully, through the combined efforts of our hospital staff, we are able to share the true spirit of giving with those who need it most.”
Various hospital departments donate all the trimmings and carefully put together the individual baskets – a complete Thanksgiving meal including everything from stuffing, sweet potatoes and corn to cranberry sauce and pumpkin pies - to be distributed by local parishes. This year staff donated nearly 40 baskets.
“Kenmore Mercy Hospital’s staff live Catholic Health’s mission to ‘reveal the healing love of Jesus to those in need’ every day of the year. However, at no time is our mission more evident than during the winter holiday season,” Sister Ellen added. “Through the generosity of our staff, we are making a difference in our community and helping to make the holidays a little brighter for our friends and neighbors,” added Sister Ellen.
The true spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday was alive and well at Kenmore Mercy Hospital as associates like volunteer Russ Lehring and unit clerk Katie Striejewske from the gastrointestinal unit, prepared Thanksgiving food baskets to help needy families throughout the local community.
