Reading Saves the Day

St. Benedict School held a "Be a Super Hero - Reading Saves the Day" Scholastic Book fair October 22 - October 29. Students were introduced to real-life heroes each day throughout the week who shared the positive influence that reading has made in their lives. Heroes that spoke on the importance of reading were school principal Mrs. Molly Halady; Assistant UB Bulls basketball coach Jim Kwitchoff ; Mercy Flight pilot Dennis Crandall; Buffalo police officer Sheila Suggs-Barrons; and St. Benedict Pastor Father Joe Porpiglia. Father Joe has been a Chaplain in the Navy reserves for 19 years. Father Joe spoke to the students about the importance reading has made in his life as a priest, a Navy chaplain and now as the pastor of Saint Benedict Parish. Saint Benedict School is located at 3980 Main Street in Amherst.
