Imagine to wake up to see a swimming beaver in your backyard pool in October! Vic Berg, Amherst, NY, said, "I looked out of my bathroom window and saw something paddling around in my pool. I could not tell what it was for sure, but I knew it was something big and making a lot of noise. Suddenly, it struck me: There could be a beaver swimming in circles in my backyard pool! Then I heard the 'smack' of its' tail and I knew for sure that I had an October swimming beaver doing laps in my pool!"
This was certainly an early Sunday morning neighborhood special event for October 17, 2010. As the neighbors gathered to watch this amazing animal acting like an Olympic swimmer, suggestions rapidly emerged to remove the uninvited and unwanted swimmer. As fast as the neighbors arrived and as fast as a multitude of friendly neighborhood suggestions happened, the swimming beaver swam even faster and kept rocketing the pool with the 'splat-spat-splat' of his tail hitting the water. Suddenly, as if on cue to not accept any of the friendly neighborhood removal suggestions, the beaver grabbed the edge of the pool, pulled himself up over the pool's edge and quickly waddled off to Ellicott Creek. The beaver did not indicate thanks for the swim - or - thanks for not using the neighbors' removal ideas.
