Is it me or did I hear from one of the downtown developers that part of the reasons why the Bass Pro deal fell through was the fact that these deal are usually done in private. I was then caught off guard by the sudden public news that if we do not start doing something soon that HSBC could be the next ones to pull out of downtown Buffalo. Seems like nothing is done in private in Buffalo politics and we have and will continue to hear way too much about what can't be done and the stories of the big one that got away. I understand that the HSBC Center built in 1980 has become an old building that will require major updates and not many of the tenants are happy with being there. The truth is HSBC has already begun to slip away from Buffalo. The Banks Data Center is Amherst which was once a major world class facility has shifted work from Buffalo to a Data Center in Chicago. The building was on the market but no buyer could be found. It is going to be mothballed and saved as a back up. This was done in private and nobody talks about it. I wonder what would become of 20 empty stories in a 38 story building in downtown Buffalo's tallest building?

Absoultely correct they are moving Data center to Chicago and they are also sending large portions to India. This has been in the works for years what surprises me is lack of any mention onthe news. Looks like smoke and mirrors to get a Govt grant.
