Amherst, N.Y. (WKBW) - Lauren Dziwulski, 13, has spent the last two years fighting for her health

"From a perfectly normal child she just started acting not like herself so I knew something was wrong," mom Nancy Dziwulski said.

A deadly virus took over her heart.

"It's called Myocarditis It's so rare. A random virus that could just cause sniffles in one person, attacked my daughters heart," Nancy said.

"It was hard but I'm still trucking," Lauren Dziwulski said.

On this road to recover, she found the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"I want to swim with the dolphins," Lauren said.

That's just what she did. Make-A- Wish sent her entire family to Atlantis Resort.

"It was a shallow water encounter and we all got in the water touched the dophins. They did tricks for us and there were beautiful surroundings," Nancy said.

Lauren said it was an experience of a lifetime.

"It was amazing," Lauren said.

Lauren is just one many kids each year that is helped by the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Now, they are asking for the community's help to send more kids to their dream destination with the "Wishes in Flight" program.

"We really need airlines miles because of wishes like Laurens. Seventy-three percent of our wishes, we do about 150 kids a year, are travel based. What we do is collect airline and frequent flyer miles and some donations so we can help Make-A-Wish kids take flight," Kate McGowan with Make-A-Wish Foundation said.

Lauren's dad Marty Dziwulski and sister joined them on the trip.

"To have an organization like Make-A-Wish is phenomenal," Marty said.

The mission of the Foundation is to give kids like Lauren and her family hope, strength and joy. The Dziwulski's said that just what this trip did.

"I go to the grocery store and I see the Make-A-Wish sign I say God Bless them. It's just amazing that they care," Lauren said.

The "Wishes in Flight" programs is asking or the community's help. If you would like to donate airlines miles to Delta, United or U.S. Airways you can log onto www.wny.wish.org. Those who want to give Jetblue or American Airline miles you can call the foundation at 716-810-WISH. Monetary donations are always welcome.
