Why go camping when you can go glamping? Glamour camping is one of the hottest trends right now.
Glampers are wined and dined with top amenities in a beautiful rural setting. That's the experience that The Woods at Bear Creek is looking to share with its visitors.
The new glamping resort is celebrating its grand opening this weekend in Franklinville, just ten minutes from Ellicottville.
Founder John Hutchins is behind the multi-million dollar project.
He's a local developer known for several area projects including the Rapids Theatre in Niagara County. The Woods at Bear Creek used to be the Jewish Community Center's Camp Lakeland. Hutchins bought the property in 2011.
He says visitors will now find everything from the longest zip line in New York State to deluxe cabins with full bathrooms and satellite TV. Even tents at Bear Creek have wooden floors. Other amenities include boating, fishing, a pool, a fine dining restaurant and banquet facilities. Hutchins says the staff at Bear Creek is ready to wait on glampers hand and foot.
"It's camping or getting close to nature without any of the work," he explains. "For example, in our cabin area, our staff will come out and build a big campfire every night. You don't have to bring any food. We will deliver food or wine or whatever you'd like right to your cabin."
The resort will feature shuttles to Ellicottville for skiing, golfing and more. It will also host music festivals where Hutchins says he can add 150 temporary tents for guests.
The Woods at Bear Creek already hosted its first wedding where guests saw nature first hand. "Right on cue a nice size black bear walked right across the main road as the wedding guests were pulling in and that was the buzz of the wedding," Hutchins said.
The grand opening is slated for Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19. For more information, call 676-2327 or find a link to their website under News Links.
