BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - When Chris Collins goes to Washington as the new representative of the 27th Congressional District next year, he will join 434 of his colleagues as a freshman member.

Not exactly what the former Erie County Executive is used to. Collins is a leader and a businessman. A millionaire and chief executive.

But that will change in Congress.

So what kind of Congressman will Chris Collins be?

"Well I think he could be a very good Congressman but he's going to have to change his style from what we saw as Erie County Executive," said Tim O'Shei, contributing editor of Buffalo Business First.

He brings business experience to this job that could play very well but he is a freshman. There's no way around it. He's a freshman. And he's going to need to act like it while still doing a very good job -- and that's a fine line," O'Shei said.

Eyewitness News Political Analyst Bob Davis, a former Republican party chief here in Erie County, said Collins will do well in Congress.

But there will be a learning curve, Davis said.

"The interesting thing about this is Chris Collins has always been an executive. He's been very successful in the private sector as the CEO. He was the County Executive, CEO. And now he's in the legislative position," said Davis.

Collins has big plans for his first term in Washington.

"I have been talking to leadership there," he said. "They want a New York Republican on Energy and Commerce and I've spent 36 years in the private sector."

"So I have every confidence I will be on a very significant committee assignment, which yes, it's unusual for a freshman, but I don't have a usual resume," said Collins.

Collins said he is confident he will adjust to what he calls "a new chapter" in his life.
