SUNSET BAY, NY (WKBW) - At the privately owned Sunset Bay Beach Club, where there have been no reports of violence, General Manager Kelly Borrello is taking extra precautions to protect customers and employees.

"I've been very cautious with my staff, using my doormen to walk them to their car. Telling them to stay in pairs and not go out alone," she said.

Most of the trouble has been down the street at a public beach.

Colleen McCarthy, 18, who lives in Sunset Bay during the summer, said she is concerned.

"My mom doesn't even let me walk around here at night anymore. Even if I'm with a huge group of people. It's not safe," McCarthy said.

Law enforcement officials are asking residents to be vigilant and call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
