The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a free app for smartphones and tablets providing real-time information to help drivers buy safe, drive safe, and stay safe.

Drivers can use the SaferCar app to look for many things about the car they already own, or a car they're looking to purchase.

By searching with the year, make, and model of the car, the app allows you to search:

  • Search 5-Star safety ratings
  • Search Crash test ratings
  • Find Recall Information,
  • Subscribe to recall notices
  • File a vehicle safety complaint
  • Find the nearest car seat installation and inspection station

Millions of drivers already rely on this data to inform their purchasing decisions and now they can access it instantly.

And if you don't have a smartphone, the same information can be found on their website.

SaferCar can be found in the Apple Store and Android Marketplace, and is a great resource to have the latest in vehicle safety information directly in the palm of your hand.
