There's been a lot of attention paid to school district spending lately with cutbacks in state funding and taxpayers keeping a close eye on budgets.
Some WNY school districts are earning high marks for administrative efficiency.
Business First ranked 429 districts across upstate New York. Researchers say Lancaster runs the leanest operation among them.
Researchers looked at district spending, staffing levels and debt service, in an effort to find the school districts with the tightest budgets and leanest staffs, regardless of academic performance.
Business First says WNY districts stand out in upstate New York for their administrative efficiency.
Lancaster is ranked number one in upstate New York. Hamburg is second, followed by Clarence, Williamsville and East Aurora.
Also in the top ten: some outside districts like Clinton in Oneida County, which ranks 6th. Baldwinsville in Onondaga County is 7th. North Tonawanda is 8th, followed by Belleville Henderson in Jefferson County. Then the Frontier School District in the Hamburg area is 10th.
