Store Owner Shot, Killed on East Side

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW/ release ) - Buffalo police continue the investigation in the murder of a local store owner at Masten Avenue and Riley Street, around 7:15pm, Friday night. Police confirmed the identity of the victim as Ali Hababi, 48 years old.

"The victim was shot while inside the store at 177 Riley Street, after a pair of black males, believed to be in their teens entered the store, one of them armed with a handgun," according to Dennis J. Richards, chief of detectives.

The suspects were further described as wearing hooded sweatshirts, one dark and one light. The victim died at the scene, after several shots were fired. The two suspects fled on foot, north on Masten Avenue, then west on Laurel Street immediately after.

The owner of Union Supermarket on the corner of Masten and Riley Avenue was shot and killed inside the corner store Friday evening, in what authorities say may have been a robbery attempt gone wrong.

Neighbors say the owner and his family were well liked in the community, and he was known his efforts to make the neighborhood a better place.
