We've heard of speed dating to find a date and now companies are using the concept to land new business.

At the 8th annual Small Business Administration Matchmaker event, businesses get ten minutes to sell themselves to federal, state and local agencies and government contractors.

Hundreds of people took part in the program yesterday at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. The one-on-one time is meaningful to companies like Design Synergies Architecture. Roxanne Button founded the business less than a year ago and is trying to land more work.

"I'm still in early stages and getting the word out is the most important part along with trying to find out who to approach about projects especially at different government levels," Button said.

She thinks it's helpful to have so many people under one roof, even other architectural firms. Rather than competing, she talked to them about teaming up as a subcontractor for green design on big jobs.
