BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - It's been a battle for years. Should anyone under the age of 21 be allowed into bars in the Chippewa entertainment district downtown?

The main motive from the common council was safety. While allowing 18 and up on the "Chip Strip" one night a week, the mayor's office says there were four incidents that lead to four bars being shut down. So the trial "one night a week" period was ended and the younger people were banned.

But not even one week into the new ban, and establishments on Chippewa say they have already noticed a strong decline in business without the younger crowd. And a general negative feeling towards the new regulation.

Since the ban has been in effect, an online petition has been started along with multiple facebook pages to save Chippewa, and allow 18 to 21-year-olds back on the strip.

A rally is scheduled to bring back college night at the next city council meeting on Tuesday at noon.
