BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Rick Jeanneret, the infamous play-by-play man for the Buffalo Sabres, has been diagnosed with stage three throat cancer, the team announced on Wednesday.

"Over the next few days and weeks he'll start treatment for that and that will take up most of the summer," said Sabres spokesman Mike Gilbert.

"He's the fabric of this community and when you think of the Buffalo Sabres - you immediately think of RJ," Gilbert said.

The Sabres have set up a special email address so fans can send Jeanneret their well wishes at getweelrj@sabres.com.

Jeanneret will undergo radiation treatments at a hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. Doctors said his type of cancer has an 85 percent recovery rate.
