BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The puppy who was set on fire in Buffalo Monday night is now recovering at a local animal hospital, and now a reward fund has been started to help catch the person responsible.
The sixteen week old Jack Russel Terrier has been nicknamed Phoenix as he recovers at the Buffalo Small Animal Hospital. But as he recovers from burns from head to toe, the hunt continues for the person who committed this act of animal cruelty.
Eyewitness News spoke to a doctor at the hospital where the puppy is being treated on Friday, who says they are still in the "critical stage" of treatment. The dog is showing some small signs of improvement, but still has a long road ahead, and things are being taken day to day.
Meanwhile, an account has been set up at local Key Bank branches to collect money in a reward fund for information leading to an arrest in this case.
A doctor at the small animal hospital says they have received enough donations to cover the medical costs for Phoenix, and anything extra will fund future cases of injured animals.
Buffalo Police are continuing to investigate this case, and are asking anyone with any information to call the confidential tipline at 847-2255.
To give to the reward fund, go to your local Key Bank branch and ask to donate.
