BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - A salute to our veterans took place this morning at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo.

Dozens attended the ceremony to pause and reflect on the sacrifices millions of Americans have made for the country. The Erie County American Legion also placed hundreds of flags on the grave sites of the fallen.

"For veterans and their families, it is a solemn day," said Cheryl Kollander of the Erie County Auxiliary. "A day to remember the sacrifices the men and women who have served. A day to honor those who have served and for those who are only here in spirit. A day to say thanks for the loved one who are left."

The event was free and open to the public.
