BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Nearly 6,000 miles from Gaza, where Israel and Hamas have been exchanging missiles and air-strikes, leaders from the local Jewish and Muslim communities came together for a message of thanksgiving and healing.
Representatives from various religious groups throughout WNY came together in unity for the 30th Annual Multi-Faith Thanksgiving Celebration at Ephesus Church Monday night.
The theme of the night, aside from giving thanks, was healing.
"We have to educate each other...that we are in this world to bring a peace together," said Imam Yahye Y. Omar, Chair of the Imam's Council of WNY.
"Here we are all focused on the same thing. It doesn't take away from when I leave this service and go home. Certainly, what's going on is Israel, as with everyone in the Jewish community, that's going to be on my mind," explained Rabbi Alex Lazarus-Klein.
Attendees were also asked to bring a perishable food item that could be distributed to the areas needy for Thanksgiving.
