WILSON, NY (WKBW) - Strong thunderstorms moved through the region Wednesday night, hitting portions of Niagara County the hardest.
the northeastern portion of the county suffered the worst with widespread power outages and minor damage, mostly downed trees and power lines.
The Village of Wilson was in the dark for most of the night. The village's only traffic signal was not functioning and only a small portion of the business district had power.
Several basements had to have water pumped out of them, but volunteer fire companies called the damage minor.
There were no reports of major damage. Most of the downed trees were cleared in a matter of hours. Utility crews continue to work to restore power to roughly 3,000 customers.
