LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) - The windows outside of Skateland in Lockport read "Thank you for your support" and "closed permanently" but as of a today, a new owner is now in control.
"I'm excited, it's a new venture for me and I'm really excited," Maurice Cooper, Skateland's new owner said. "I think Lockport needs a rink and I think I will be able to do a good job."
Skateland had been open for nearly 30 years, but was recently closed after the previous owners fell behind on paying their property taxes.
Cooper already owns the popular Rainbow Rink in North Tonawanda, and already has big plans for his newest rink.
"I would like to update and re-model it" Cooper said. "You know, just give it a fresh look."
But Cooper isn't the only person excited.
"That's where I used to go all the time when I was a kid," Lockport native Patricia Marshall said. "I'm excited, I'll be there the day it opens."
