NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WKBW) - Daredevil Nik Wallenda is asking the public to help him pay for expenses connected to his historic high wire walk above Niagara Falls later this month.
Wallenda posted a YouTube video on indiegogo.com, a money-raising site, with a goal of $50,000.
"One thing I've learned about walking a natural wonder like Niagara Falls is that it's extremely costly," Wallenda said in the video.
"There have been so many unforeseen costs that have come up lately. And I need your help to raise the money to make this thing happen," he said.
Wallenda is seeking donations ranging from $1 to $10,000. So far he has raised about $2,000.
The larger donations come with exclusive perks. A $1,000 will give the donor four free VIP tickets to the walk on June 15. Wallenda will have dinner with anyone who donates $5,000.
The $10,000 donation level comes with a personal two-hour tightrope lesson by Wallenda himself.
Wallenda, who is being paid an unknown sum by ABC-TV for broadcast rights to the stunt, says he needs the cash to pay for travel, marketing and training.
