Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - Dr. Raffaella Marcantonio and Dr. Marshall Lim dreamed of giving their teenage son a sibling.

"We've always kind of wondered why we didn't have a child. Tests later no one could tell us, all the parts worked. We had a good life and thought we should pay back," Marcantonio said.

They shifted their hopes and attention to Africa to adopt a baby. To their surprise, three babies came their way.

"In August, I got an email that said did you hear about the twins and their sibling sister all under two," Marcantonio said.

Lim said he couldn't believe that he would soon go from a father of one to a father of four.

"I thought we were getting one so three is quite a shock to me and two of them are girls," Lim said.

The couple said the process takes a lot of time, having to go to Uganda for weeks. Then, there are numerous trips to court, through customs and weeks of waiting for referrals, all of which could fall through at any time. Then, there is the expense of more than $75,000.

"Realizing we are short I said I can't ask for money but then my wife said it's not us asking or money. It is for the children. Remember it's for the children," Lim said.

The couple is holding a fundraiser on April 13 and hopes the community will get behind their cause.

"We're going to do a fundraiser. Everyone always says it takes a village to raise a child. It's going to take the entire Buffalo community to take bring these children home," Marcantonio said.

The fundraiser will take place on Saturday, April 13th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church. Tickets are $20
