BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Figures released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that in October non-farm employment increased by 171,000 jobs.
The new jobs were in professional and business services, health care, and retail trade.
On the downside, the unemployment level also increased from 7.8% in September to 7.9% in October.
The report says over 12-million American are out of work, and many say they are having a very difficult time finding a job.
The jobs report comes only days before the presidential election.
"Had the jobs report gone up to 8.2%, or even 8.3%, I think that might not have been good for the President . . . and it didn't. So, in a tight race like this, anything can make a difference," said Canisius College Political Science Professor - Michael Haselswerdt.
"The issue is more about getting people to the polls than it is about changing minds at this point," adds Medaille College Political Scientist - Matthew Bowker,, Ph.D.
