North Tonawanda, N.Y. (WKBW) - Investigators were on the scene for most of Monday night, as they search for the cause of a deadly fire that killed two women.
Firefighters took the call just before 10 p.m. at 53 Third Avenue. First units forced front entrance and conducted a search, finding 84-year-old Dorothy Burns. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second crew attempted entry to the rear of the home where they found 62-year-old Kathleen Watson, Burns' daughter. Watson was taken to DeGraff Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The fire investigation is continuing, including unconfirmed reports of explosions.
Burns' and Watson's deaths were both listed as smoke inhalation. A firefighter also received minor injuries and remained on duty.
Damages are estimated at $25,000 to the building at $10,000 to the contents.
