CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (WKBW) - A botched armed robbery leads to a SWAT situation at a Cheektowaga restaurant and those robbers are still on the loose.

The incident took place at the IHOP restaurant on Walden Avenue near Harlem Road.

Cheektowaga police say two males used weapons and threatened several people in an attempt to steal cash.

The two suspects entered the restaurant around 8:40 P.M. at gunpoint, six people including customers and employees, were forced to move to a back office area.

Police say one of the men also displayed a knife.

The robbers tried to get the employees to open a safe but they were unable because workers did not know the combination.

During some of the confusion, the robbers moved outside the office area, which allowed employees to make a quick action.

The employees also secured a rear door and they remained locked inside the office until police arrived.

A swat team from Cheektowaga helped free the people and they searched the restaurant but the two suspects had fled.

Now there is a police manhunt looking for the two bandits.

Police say none of the people who were threatened suffered any injuries.
