High Sex Rate at Buffalo Public Schools

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The statistics came to light after 11,000 students from sixth grade to 12th grade completed a survey created by the Centers for Disease Control in October of 2011.

Fifteen percent of middle school students reported being sexually active, almost half of those students said they had three or more partners, and 22 percent of those students didn't wear a condom.

Now to the high schoolers. More than half are having sex, that's 20 percent higher than the state average. Many of those teenagers reported having sex before 13 which is a whopping 64 percent above the state and national average.

Many of the kids surveyed say they were not taught about HIV or aids in school.

In order to address these concerns the school district is hosting several community forums on sexual health:
