LAKEVIEW, N.Y. (WKBW) - A jobs program in Buffalo is helping veterans make the transition into civilian life.

The Buffalo Building Trades Council is hosting a two-day "Helmets to Hardhats" job fair in Lakeview, tacking it on to their career days for students.

Local labor leaders in all aspects of construction introduced veterans to apprenticeships they can get involved with in Erie County.

There are about 5,500 unemployed veterans in Erie County.

The job fair will continue tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Operating Engineers Training Hall on Pleasant Avenue in Lakeview.
